[Bay Area] Birthday Blessings

For the past four years, I have been blessed to take an annual birthday day trip. Not once did I have to drive myself, or even rely on Bay Area Transit. God gifted me with good friends who delighted to adventure me around the Bay in celebration of the day I was born.

24th · Napa Valley, CA · November 2013

Napa was my inaugural Bay Area birthday day trip. Unfortunately, lots of my photos from that day are lost somehow … probably posted to an old purged Instagram account and deleted from my iPhone.  Nonetheless, the memory of God’s grace and goodness remains. Shoutout to Dave and Cryn for orchestrating much of the excursion and using their Napa Valley connections to secure a barn for my picnic lunch. We spent the day exploring downtown Napa and had dinner at one of the rustic local eateries before heading back to Berkeley. I felt so loved.

25th · Sausalito, CA · November 2014

The following year, my friend Tiffany drove my sister and I up to Sausalito for a birthday breakfast and traipse around. I had been wanting to visit Sausalito, specifically, for my own quirky reasons, and I really enjoyed the low-key vibe of the ladies morning out.

26th · Carmel (By-The-Sea) // Santa Cruz · November 2015

By 2015, I had finally made it out to my beloved Santa Cruz; so when it came time for me to pick a small(er) town for my annual birthday day trip, Santa Cruz was on my mind. I had also been wanting to go to Carmel since I’d moved out to California a couple years prior. What ended up happening was that my good friend KL and I went to Carmel that morning, were rather unimpressed, and hit Santa Cruz up on the way home to make up for it. Ha. Carmel is definitely beautiful, but the Northern European cottage and village vibes are an odd choice against the Pacific landscape. Santa Cruz, on the other hand, has never disappointed.

27th · Bolinas, CA · November 2017

Last year, I went to Bolinas [in addition to a delayed Santa Cruz trip with Christina a few weeks later]. Bolinas was an easy decision, given my peaked interest in the surf culture of Northern California. I remember brushing off the I’ve got time feeling in favor of actually planning to go, and I’m so glad that KL and I made the effort to get up there despite our personal dramas and busy schedules. As it turns out, Bolinas was a bookend on my annual Bay Area Birthday Day Trip ritual. For now.
